Today marks the birthday of the late great George Harrison, who would have been 74 years old today. “What Is Life” is one of several classics on Harrison’s All Things Must Pass album and has been featured over the years in multiple films, perhaps most notably in the movie Goodfellas. The song reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971 and had an all-star backing cast that included Eric Clapton, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. Per Songfacts.com, Harrison originally wrote the song for Billy Preston but decided to release it himself after the song turned out to be an up-tempo rock song instead of the gospel-esque song it was originally intended to be.
