Eddie Van Halen Spreads The Musical Wealth

Eddie Van Halen has always been a guitar hero, cooking up some of the most classic riffs in rock history. But now we switch to Eddie Van Halen the philanthropist. Appearing on CNN, Eddie Van Halen credits music with keeping him out of trouble — and he asks an important question: “Could you imagine a world without music?”

You can watch the story above, but it seems that several years ago Van Halen paired up with the nonprofit organization Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to donate 75 guitars from his personal collection to public school children. During the interview Van Halen says, “My whole life has been music. I could not imagine anything else.

“It really hit me when I graduated high school, you sign everybody’s yearbook and everybody asks you, ‘So what college are you going to?’ Uh… ‘Hey Al, I think we better stick to what we know.'”

Van Halen went on to say, “Music is such a necessity. It touches people’s souls. Music is the universal language to me. It transcends everything.”
