Song of the Day: Twenty One Pilots – “Heathens”

Here’s one more look at a song up for a Rock category award at tonight’s Grammys. Twenty One Pilots are up for awards in five categories; this track got inserted into the Rock categories (Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance) while their hit “Stressed Out” is up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Off the Suicide Squad soundtrack, this song, like Twenty One Pilots themselves, has a big following as the official video is up over 640 million views on YouTube and the single reached the top 40 in over 25 countries and hit triple platinum in the U.S. This is one of my favorite tracks from these guys, along with “Ride” and “Heavydirtysoul.” I remember a friend told me of Twenty One Pilots before they blew up; I liked what I heard and found their genre-bending sound real interesting but couldn’t have guessed they’d catch on the way they have. In 2016 they joined Elvis and The Beatles as the only artists to ever have two songs (“Heathens,” “Ride”) in the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week. Not bad for a couple guys from Columbus, Ohio.
