Song of the Day: Neil Young – “Heart of Gold”

Here’s one off Neil Young’s Harvest album, which celebrated its 45th anniversary on February 1. This song was first performed in 1971, but in 1972 it became a big hit, reaching No. 1 in the U.S. and Canada and reaching No. 10 in the U.K. The song gave Young a brush of mainstream popularity, of which he once said “This song put me in the middle of the road. Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch. A rougher ride but I saw more interesting people there.” The song has been covered by a wide variety of artists, including Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, Diana Krall, Charles Bradley, Tori Amos, Jimmy Buffett, and Johnny Cash.
