1967 is only the tip of the anniversary iceberg… 1977 is jam-packed as well



We’ve already talked about how many notable 50th anniversaries there will be in music this year on account of how pivotal 1967 was in the music scene. That’s just the start of the many anniversaries to come this year though as 1977, a gigantic year itself, will bring a slew of notable 40th anniversaries.

Punk exploded, disco was as big, Star Wars was in the theaters and on the Billboard charts, while in the middle of it all there were quite a few rock classics to make their way to the forefront.

Among those launching debut albums in 1977 were Peter Gabriel (solo), Cheap Trick, Sex Pistols, Talking Heads, The Damned, Foreigner, Iggy Pop (solo), The Clash, Motorhead, Steve Winwood (solo), Richard Hell and the Voidoids, The Damned, Television, and Wire. Notable punk bands to form in 1977 included Bad Brains, the Misfits, the Germs, The Plasmatics, and X, among others.

So yeah, it was quite a big year. And as is the case with 1967, we’ll be sure to do plenty of walks down the 1977 memory lane with 1977 throughout the rest of this year.
