Song of the Day: Bruce Springsteen – “Spirit in the Night”

Today marks the anniversary of the release of Bruce Springsteen’s debut album Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J., which came out on this day in 1973. The song was released as a single but wasn’t a hit, although Manfred Mann was able to bring it into the top 100 with their 1976 cover. The song is a good early example of what was to come from Springsteen lyrically and sonically; he actually played much of this song himself as he was joined only by Vini Lopez on drums and Clarence Clemons on saxophone due to other band members being unable to make the session.
