U2 hints at special Joshua Tree shows coming in 2017

u2xmasU2 is expected to release their new album Songs and Experience as well as go on tour in 2017, but based on a Christmas Day announcement, that might not be all they have in store for next year.

In a video posted to the band’s web site, frontman Bono said there are extra things planned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of U2’s album The Joshua Tree.

“Next year’s going to be a big year for the U2 group,” said Bono. “We have Songs of Experience coming, and to honor 30 years of Joshua Tree, we have some very, very special shows coming. Very special.”

There were also reports circulating on Christmas that U2 may be headlining Bonnaroo next year.

The Joshua Tree celebrates its 30th anniversary of release on March 9, 2017. We’ll certainly keep you posted on any details to come regarding these shows Bono speaks of.
