Pearl Jam, ELO among this year’s Rock Hall inductees



elo1The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2017 inductees on Tuesday morning, and this year’s class will include Pearl Jam, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Joan Baez, Tupac Shakur, and Journey, while Nile Rodgers will be inducted in the non-performer award with a musical excellence designation.

The winners were announced on Sirius XM radio Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation CEO Joel Peresman.

Pearl Jam, ELO, Tupac Shakur, Joan Baez, and Journey were all first-time nominees, while Yes was a third-time nominee. Journey received more votes than any band from fans, while Pearl Jam, ELO, and Yes were also among the top five in fan voting. Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur were in their first year of eligibility, while the other inductees have had to wait much longer (Joan Baez 1985, Yes 1994, ELO 1996, Journey 2000).

Other acts that were nominated but were not inducted include Bad Brains, Chaka Khan, Chic, Depeche Mode, J. Geils Band, Jane’s Addiction, Janet Jackson, Joe Tex, Kraftwerk, MC5, Steppenwolf, The Cars, and The Zombies.
