Song of the Day: Allman Brothers Band – “Ramblin’ Man”

Happy birthday wishes go out to Dickey Betts, who turns 73 years old today. Here’s one of Betts’s signature moments with the Allman Brothers Band, and one of the band’s signature moments as well. Written and sung by Betts and inspired by a 1951 Hank Williams song of the same name, this was the band’s only top ten hit, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973. The song came out after the death of Duane Allman but was the last that Berry Oakley recorded before dying as a result of a motorcycle accident on November 11, 1972.
