Song of the Day: The Beatles – “Happiness is a Warm Gun”

Today marks the 48th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ “White Album.” It’s the choice of favorite Beatles album for many fans, and I think if I had to choose, I would have a hard time not picking it as mine. The album of course had so many different ideas packed in at once, and “Happiness is a Warm Gun” is in a way a microcosm of that as the song itself consists of three sections of different songs. Per Wikipedia, Lennon got the idea for the title after seeing a magazine that George Martin showed him. “I think he showed me a cover of a magazine that said ‘Happiness Is a Warm Gun.’ It was a gun magazine,” Lennon said. “I just thought it was a fantastic, insane thing to say. A warm gun means you just shot something.”
