Song of the Day: U2 – “Love Is Blindness”

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the release of U2’s classic album Achtung Baby. The album produced a slew of hits — “Mysterious Ways,” “The Fly,” “One,” “Even Better Than the Real Thing,” and “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses.” This song, which was the album’s closer, might have been my favorite though. It’s a haunting track that depicts failed love, punctuated by the feeling The Edge gives through his guitar work as he had just separated from his wife around the time of the song’s recording. The studio version is featured here, but there are also a couple terrific live performances of the song on YouTube that are definitely worth checking out — one from the Zoo TV tour and one a solo acoustic version performed by The Edge. Both are a treat considering the song has only been performed live twice since Zoo TV. Plus Jack White performed a pretty cool cover of it too.
