Bizarre music hoarder streams unheard music after Trump’s win

Martin Shkeli streams Wu-Tang albumThe world got to listen to some never-before-heard music when Martin Shkreli uploaded a stream to YouTube yesterday.

“I actually have a contract with the Wu-Tang Clan where I’m not allowed to do this,” he says. “Obviously, I own the music and I bought it and paid a lot of money for it. In many ways, the contract shouldn’t matter that much. But I am a man of my word; I had to play a little bit of it…but I’ve got to keep my word to them, too.”

As we reported yesterday, Shkreli made his promise on Twitter on Oct. 27: “If Trump wins, my entire unreleased music collection, including unheard Nirvana, Beatles, and of course, Wu-Tang, comes out, for free.”

He’s been collecting music for nearly 20 years, and his collection includes unreleased “wu, Beatles, 2pac, nirvana, radiohead, Hendrix, brand new, smiths, Elliot smith, Ramones…”

“What do you want first?” he asked yesterday. Apparently, the world wanted the golden goose: the infamous Wu-Tang album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. Just one copy of the album was for sale and Shkreli bought it for $2 million earlier this year. He streamed the introduction and part of track 2 yesterday.

In a bizarre segment of the video, Shkreli starts responding to off-screen comments someone’s making online. “Why do you want to start with me?” he asks (starting at 3:46). “What’d I do to you? You really think this is a good f-ing idea? It’s all me? What the f— did I do to you? I was just about to play track 2 after giving a talk about track 1 but you really want to start sh– with me? What the f— is wrong with you? … At least you said you’re sorry. I don’t take shit from nobody. … You want to bring out the other Martin? Is that what you want? You want the other Martin?”

Shkreli starts playing track 2 about 5 minutes into the video.

“Shkreli made headlines in 2015 when the company he founded, Turing Pharmaceuticals, acquired the drug Daraprim and raised the price by 5,000 percent,” USA Today reports. “He is currently on bail after being arrested by the FBI and indicted for securities fraud last December.”
