Song of the Day: Emerson, Lake & Palmer – “Nutrocker”

Today marks the 72nd birthday of Keith Emerson, who died on March 11 of this year to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. ELP used to perform a cover of this track, which was a hit for B. Bumble and the Stingers in 1962 and is a new version of “March of the Toy Soldiers” from The Nutcracker. This performance, taken from the 1971 live album Pictures at an Exhibition, is a joy to listen to as you can tell they had fun with this song. Emerson used to have a clavinet as part of his keyboard setup, but this was the only song he used it on.
