Song of the Day: Manfred Mann’s Earth Band – “Blinded by the Light”

Happy birthday wishes go out to Manfred Sepse Lubowitz, a.k.a. Manfred Mann, who turns 76 today. This song is one of three written by others (including “Do Wah Diddy Diddy” and “The Mighty Quinn”) that serve as perhaps the most famous tracks Mann was involved with over the years. This one was written by Bruce Springsteen of course, which was originally a part of his debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. Springsteen once joked about the fact that it sounds like Mann is saying “douche” instead of “deuce” in this version, saying that it took Mann turning the song into being about feminine hygiene products to make it popular. What are Mann and the Earth Band doing these days? They’re still going strong as they’re in a middle of a European tour that will last into December.
