Radiohead Fan Finds A Way To Hear What’s In Special Edition

One of the neater incentives to purchase the special edition of Radiohead’s A Moon Shape Pool – aside from the music and presentation – was the piece of 1/2″ recording tape from the bands various recording sessions dating all the way back to Kid A. To quote the band directly: “The tape degrades over time and becomes unplayable.”

“We thought rather than it ending up as landfill we would cut it up and make it useful as a part of the special edition. A new life for some obsolete technology. You may have silence, you may have coloured leader tape, you may have a chorus… It’s a crapshoot.”

It seems a fan has found a way to play the tape and incite a twitter guessing game between Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and frontman Thom Yorke. Godrich took to twitter saying, “It’s ‘Bodysnatchers!’” Yorke then followed with a retweet of the declaration. It then came back with the help of some Radiohead Reddit sleuths that the part was in fact a piece of “Jigsaw Falling Into Place.” You can see a video of the engineer working with the digital transfer machine to hear the audio here or below.
