We’re still six weeks from Halloween, but master pumpkin carvers are already at work. Gord Downie, lead singer of The Tragically Hip, has gotten his own tribute “gourd,” which was carved by Chris Gilfoy.

Gilfoy’s been carving pumpkins for about a decade. “I’ve been a fan on theirs since the early ’90s,” he says, via CBC. “Knowing what Gord is going through right now, I just felt it would be a fitting tribute this year.”

Downie announced he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in May.

“I get a lot of questions about how real it is,” Gilfoy says. “I usually end up having to send them a few other pictures of it that show the more detail of the pumpkin itself so that they believe me.”
