Song of the Day: Amy Winehouse – “Back to Black”

Today marks the birthday of the late Amy Winehouse, who would have been 33 years old today. The song is inspired by Winehouse’s relationship with ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil; Winehouse explained the meaning of the title to the Sun in 2006: “‘Back to Black’ is when you’ve finished a relationship and you go back to what’s comfortable for you. My ex went back to his girlfriend and I went back to drinking and dark times. The song has a 60s girl group influence, most notably The Shangri-Las’ “Remember (Walking in the Sand).” This song is Winehouse at the top of her game and may have become her most popular song over the years as it is her most listened to song on YouTube and Spotify by a safe margin.
