Metallica will go on for a while, Lars Ulrich says

metallicabannerMetallica could wind up being one of those bands who winds up playing until they can’t play anymore, based on comments given to Rolling Stone by drummer Lars Ulrich.

Ulrich told Rolling Stone that as long as the band holds up physically, they could be playing for a long time.

“I love the Rolling Stones more than anybody else on this planet,” Ulrich said. “Obviously what we do, I’d like to argue, is slightly more physically demanding in terms of the energy that goes into it. Songs like ‘Battery’ or ‘Master of Puppets’ or ‘One’ have this insane physical energy and demand. If you can’t play it at the physical demand that it deserves, it’s better to not play it than play it half-assed. That’s the only unknown. I think mentally we could do this for another 100 years.”

The band, whose members are all in their 50s, will be busy in the year ahead as a new album is about to drop and a tour is planned. The new album, entitled Hardwired … To Self Destruct, is due out November 18.
