Alice Cooper weighs in on Joe Perry’s concert collapse

joeperryGuitarist Joe Perry gave the rock world a scare in July when he collapsed during a Hollywood Vampires concert in Brooklyn. Fortunately Perry’s collapse had nothing to do with any heart issues as originally feared but rather dehydration and exhaustion.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hollywood Vampires frontman Alice Cooper spoke out about the collapse for the first time, providing some detail on what led to the collapse and confirming that Hollywood Vampires had a much heavier workload than Perry was used to.

“Aerosmith does two shows a week, but we were on our eighth show in nine days, and I’m used to working like that,” Cooper said. “I’m used to working an hour and 40 minutes or two hours, five nights a week. I was in shape and so was Johnny (Depp) and everybody else. I think Joe was not ready for that kind of pace. We were doing 25 to 30 songs with no break. You’re in fourth gear, and there’s no 24-hour resting period. I think it just caught up with him. He finally got up there onstage, dehydrated. And I think he was exhausted. He told me the night before he hadn’t eaten in two days.”

Perry, 65, rejoined the band after a couple of weeks and seemed to be back in top form, Cooper said.

“I’ve never seen him play so good,” Cooper said. “He looked great and he played great for the next few shows.”
