Watch Jason Isbell And Ryan Adams Cover The Stones

jasonisbell2I wish I had been in San Francisco last weekend. I mean, I always wish I was in San Francisco, but even more so last weekend because of the Outside Lands Festival, which by all accounts was a smashing success. It’s an odd little festival, with an intriguing mix of indie and electronic acts, plus Lionel Ritchie of all people.

Luckily there’s some great video surfacing, at least temporarily, from the festival. Radiohead was sensational, showcasing songs from their new album A Moon Shaped Pool as well as surprising with some deep album tracks like “Let Down” from OK Computer. There was an epic performance from LCD Soundsystem, you gotta see their closer “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House”, which must have shook the Golden Gate Bridge. And, The Last Shadow Puppets delivered a typically brilliant performance.

Another great highlight came at the end of Jason Isbell’s set Sunday evening. The following act was Ryan Adams and the Shining, so it seemed like a good fit that Adams came on to perform with Isbell for the last song. What a joy it turned out to be.

Introducing it as a ”rock & roll number”, they launched into “Sway” from Sticky Fingers, and proceeded to knock it out of the park. The song carried more weight in light of the addiction problems that both Isbell and Adams have faced, and it showed. Isbell took the lead vocals, and as always he put everything he’s got into it. His band did a great job delivering some power, and a real treat was watching the two front guys both taking a go on some lead guitar licks.

This was a great Rock moment, no matter how far away from Golden Gate Park you were.
