Proceeds from Clapton guitar auction to aid wife of Johnny Nicholas

ericclaptonbanner1A 2014 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar once played by Eric Clapton was recently purchased for $45,000 at an online auction, money that will go to help pay the medical bills of the wife of bluesman Johnny Nicholas, the Associated Press reports.

The guitar was auctioned off by Heritage Auctions, who told the AP that the guitar went for over twice the expected amount to an anonymous bidder. The guitar was played by Clapton during his 2015 “Slowhand at 70” concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Nicholas’s wife has been fighting leukemia.
