Song of the Day: Wings – “Silly Love Songs”



On this day in 1976, this song began a five-week run at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Off the 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound, this song was a response by Paul McCartney to music critics and to John Lennon for criticism about writing lightweight love songs. The song begins, “You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs/I look around me and I see it isn’t so/Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs/And what’s wrong with that?” Nothing at all, and McCartney has made quite a few people happy with that approach.
