Song of the Day: Foo Fighters – “Everlong”

On this day in 1997, the Foo Fighters released their second album, The Colour and the Shape. The album spawned a few of the band’s biggest hits, including “Everlong,” which reached No. 3 on the U.S. Alternative Songs chart. The song was ranked at No. 28 in VH-1’s list of Greatest Hard Rock Songs, No. 39 in Kerrang‘s list of Greatest Singles of All Time and No. 45 in Kerrang‘s list of Greatest Rock Tracks Ever. Dave Grohl once said of the song, “That song’s about a girl that I’d fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly.” It’s a personal favorite of David Letterman, who used the song as the farewell song played on his final show.
