loureedcollectionA 17-disc box set containing Lou Reed’s solo albums from 1972 to 1986 is due for release on October 7, Rolling Stone reports.

Remastering the albums for the box set, which producer Hal Willner called Reed’s “last project,” was something Reed was working on in the months leading up to his death.

“Everyone who was in that room or around Lou during this period witnessed a beautiful thing as he enthusiastically relived that whole period of his work with the joy of rediscovery, excitedly pointing out subtleties in sounds he hadn’t heard in years,” Willner says in the set’s liner notes, per Rolling Stone. “In retrospect, reminiscing about these sessions done less than four months before he died, the moments seem even more magnified.”
