5 fantastic rock songs that need to be on your summer playlist

vanmorrisonslideSpring is well underway and sunny days are becoming more and more frequent — of course, that means rock enthusiasts everywhere need a refresher on good rock songs for driving with the windows down. Most of these should be familiar, but in case you need a starting point for putting together your “2016 Summer Rock” playlist, here’s a few essentials:

1. Good Day Sunshine, The Beatles

This is an obvious choice — a lighthearted mellow rocker, “Good Day Sunshine” puts even someone in the worst mood a little bit more at ease. It’s a classic, and it’ll bring sunshine to even the cloudiest day.

2. Beautiful Day, U2

Another obvious, uplifting song perfect for summer. Bono glories in the beauty of even the most ordinary day, comparing it to the luster of new-found love.

3. Brown-Eyed Girl, Van Morrison

If this song isn’t on your summer rock playlist, then you have a problem. Add it right now.

4. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), The Proclaimers

The Proclaimers are incredibly underrated as a folk/rock band, but that’s an opinion for another time. This single is relatively well-known, so if you don’t know it and consider yourself a rock fanatic, then you should educate yourself right now. A song of fidelity, “I’m Gonna Be” possesses a distinct summery tone and danceable melody. Perfect for driving with the windows down.

5.  You’re My Best Friend, Queen

As a feel-good song, this Queen single wins the contest. The upbeat, major tonality and happy lyrics (they literally sing the word “happy” in the bridge) makes “You’re My Best Friend” perfect for any summer drive. This one is for when you’re driving with your best friend, or your special someone.
