Morrissey lashes out at Prince William, dubs him “idiot eternal”

If there’s anyone who holds more malice for the British royal family than Morrissey, I’ve yet to find them. Prince William’s recent comments on hunting seem well-intentioned (via NME):

“When (an animal) is infertile, he’s at the end of his life, if somebody out there wants to pay that money [for a hunting licence] – and it wouldn’t be me – but if somebody did, then as long as that money goes back into protection of the species then it is a justifiable means of conserving species that are under serious threat.”

Morrissey heard it, though, and blew a gasket, dashing off a response he dubbed “William The Terrible: idiot eternal”:

“[William] claims it is OK if the animal is infertile or past its best,” Morrissey writes. “Since all of these terms apply to ‘the Queen’, is William suggesting that she, too, should be shot?”

He added: “Indefatigable in their love of killing, the Boil Family above any other have driven many species to near extinction, yet they are exempt from charges of poaching or trafficking or murder because, well, because they are the family most feared by the UK press.”

“William, why endorse the killing of anything?” Morrissey continues. “What is it about you that cannot survive without killing? If any animal living freely can manage to survive to reach an ‘old age’, why shoot it? Should it not be cherished for its determination against born killers such as ‘Prince’ William?”

“William, please go away – to any of the many other islands owned by your grandmother. Go there. Stay there. Spare us of your children, and for your own sake, say not another word. You are an intellectual embarrassment.”

The whole thing sounds like it was scrawled in red spraypaint on a railroad car by an angsty teenager. And that makes sense, considering Morrissey’s the guy who sang on The Smiths’ 1986 game-changing album, The Queen is Dead. Still, it reminds me I’d rather listen to a Smiths album than hear Morrisey talk about politics, monarchies or animal rights.
