Third Man Records Announce Their Contribution To Record Store Day

thirdmanrecordsIf I could, I’d gladly go back and update my most wanted picks on Record Store Day. Jack White’s Third Man Records held back their releases, and for good reason too. Third Man Records will put forth three releases for the vinyl holiday.

The first release – and an RSD must-have – will be the official release of the White Stripes’ 2001 Peel Sessions. Released at Third Man Detroit and Tennessee as well as record stores everywhere, it’s one of the most bootlegged performances out of The White Stripes’ catalog. This double red and white LP mark the first time it has been officially released; a standard black vinyl pressing will be out later this year.

The second release is a Third Man Detroit and Tennessee exclusive. They’ll be releasing White’s Muppets-assisted cover of Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.” The 7″ will be pressed on It’s Not Easy Being Green Colored Vinyl. The b-side will feature the special TV rendition, featuring the rest of The Muppets singing along.

Finally, the third offering will be featured in all fantastic record stores everywhere. Third Man is updating the 7″ blue series with the Kween Goddess from The B52’s herself, Kate Pierson. You can see the video “Venus” directed by Brad Holland (of Whirlwind Heat) below. The b-side will feature a song entitled “Radio in Bed.” Both songs are produced by White.
