Rolling Stones play for hundreds of thousands of fans in Havana

The Rolling Stones rocked Cuba Friday night, playing a free concert in front of a reported 500,000 fans at Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana in Havana.

The historic show was the first time the Stones played Cuba and is said to be the largest concert in the history of the country. The show, by many counts, was a success.

“A dozen songs in and the Stones cranked up the energy with an impassioned ‘Gimme Shelter,'” wrote Richard L. Dewey of Rolling Stone. “Jagger’s vocals carried the night in many places, but at no point was he in better form than as he traded lines with singer Sasha Allen on the classic anthem. Cuban communism might be losing steam, but over an hour into the show it was clear that Mick Jagger is not.”
