Song of the Day: The Rolling Stones – “Shine A Light”

On this day in 1962, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards played on the same stage for the first time in the band Little Boy Blue and Blue Boys. They’ve obviously come quite a long way since then. On Friday, the Stones will perform a historic concert in front of what is expected to be 500,000 fans at Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana in Havana, Cuba, which should be quite a musical moment. They might not perform this song, but it’s one of my favorites from my (and many others) favorite Stones album, Exile on Main St. Jagger began writing the song in 1968 about guitarist Brian Jones’ drug addiction, at which time the song was called “Get a Line on You”. The song’s lyrics and title changed after Jones’ death in 1969.
