Song of the Day: Vera Lynn – “We’ll Meet Again”

Happy birthday wishes go out to Dame Vera Lynn, who turns 99 years old today. Vera of course first became famous for her songs and performances during World War II, which earned her the title of”The Forces’ Sweetheart.” Later, in 1979, Pink Floyd asked on the song “Vera” off The Wall album “Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn? Remember when she said that we would meet again some sunny day?… Vera, what has become of you?” Well, Vera is still the treasure she’s always been after all these years. In 2009, she became the oldest person ever to hit No. 1 on the U.K. album charts with the album We’ll Meet Again: The Very Best of Vera Lynn, then she released another hits collection in 2014 called National Treasure – Ultimate Collection, which reached No. 13. Our Song of the Day today is the famous 1939 song that is directly referenced in that Pink Floyd track — one that is still a very moving listen today.
