Song of the Day: Lou Reed – “Vicious”

Today marks the birthday of late legend Lou Reed, who would have been 74 years old today. Reed was always the epitome of cool, and this song captures that essence quite well. “Vicious” is an example of how sometimes it doesn’t take much to influence the creation a song. Reed told Rolling Stone in 1989 that the idea for the song and the song’s first lyrics (“Vicious/You hit me with a flower”) came directly from a suggestion by Andy Warhol. “He said, ‘Why don’t you write a song called ‘Vicious,'” Reed said. “And I said, ‘What kind of vicious?’ ‘Oh, you know, vicious like I hit you with a flower.’ And I wrote it down literally.”

And there you have it.
