Song of the Day: Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash – “Girl from the North Country”

On this day in 1969, Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan held a recording session together in Nashville. Their version of song, which was originally written by Dylan after a trip to England in 1962 and released on The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan in 1963, was the only song to be released from that recording session, per Paul Shaffer’s Day in Rock. The song appeared on Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album and recently was part of the soundtrack of the film Silver Linings Playbook.

  1. It’s almost an unsettling duo. There’s tension between their voices. Love the idea of those guys just kicking back and playing music together.
