On this day in 1981, Rush released their classic album Moving Pictures, which remains a favorite among fans and a good place to start for new listeners of the band. Obviously the album is most known for perhaps Rush’s most famous song, “Tom Sawyer”, which may well still be my favorite from the band after all these years. “Tom Sawyer” gets plenty of love though, so we’ll give the Song of the Day instead to “Limelight”, which isn’t far behind “Tom Sawyer” on my list of favorites from the band. It’s a song with lyrics written by drummer Neil Peart about being uncomfortable with fame. Ironically, Moving Pictures just wound up making the band quite a bit more famous. This song helped too, as it went to No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Tracks chart.
