Rocknuts Insider: P-Funk member diagnosed with cancer, rock loses genius, and new music

Here are the biggest stories in rock today:

1) Ex-Clapton, Bee Gees manager Robert Stigwood dies. Spencer Gibb’s son shared the sad news on Facebook on Jan. 4: “My godfather, and the longtime manager of my family, Robert Stigwood, has passed away. A creative genius with a very quick and dry wit, Robert was the driving force behind The Bee Gees career, as well as having discovered Cream, and subsequently managing Eric Clapton. He was also of course, the creator of the movies Saturday Night Fever and Grease, and many Broadway musicals with Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. RSO Records pretty much defined the late 70’s. Of course, his biography is very extensive and can easily be found online…..I would like to thank Robert for his kindness to me over the years as well as his mentorship to my family. ‘Stiggy,’ you will be missed.”

2) Steely Dan singer accused of domestic abuse. Donald Fagen was arrested in New York on Monday after allegedly shoving his wife Libby Titus “into a marble window frame, knocking her to the ground” (via NME). “I don’t feel good,” Titus said after the incident. “I’m very tired and I’m divorcing my husband.”

3) New music from LCD Soundsystem. “We’re not just playing Coachella,” the band said on Facebook. “we’re playing all over. we’re not just having some reunion tour. we’re releasing a record (sometime this year—still working on it, actually), so this isn’t a victory lap or anything, which wouldn’t be of much interest to us. this is just the bus full of substitute teachers back from their coffee break with new music and the same weird gear—or as much of it as we still have (it’s very interesting to re-buy the same gear, and in some cases buy gear BACK from people you sold it to), and rambling around trying to be louder than everyone else. thank fuck we were never skinny and young. or at least i wasn’t. that always happens with bands… they aren’t fat when they come back, typically, just, i don’t know, thicker. i was lucky to start this band kind of fat and old, so there’s no, like ‘look how YOUNG they were!’ shit to even find on the internet. i mean, we were younger and everything, but we weren’t young, if you know what i mean.”

let’s just start this thing finally with some clarity.i write songs all the time. sometimes they’re just weird songs…

4) New music from Billy Corgan. It’s just a clip, but Billy Corgan has released a pretty cool teaser track that will serve as the theme song for the wrestling show “Impact.” Corgan’s taken a full-time job on the show as Senior Producer, Creative and Talent Development (via NME):

5) P-Funk member diagnosed with cancer. We’ve recently learned Bernie Worrell is suffering from stage-four lung cancer. Bernie’s wife, Judie Worrell, first posted the news on Facebook: “We have rejected chemotherapy (at this point) but he is undergoing naturopathic treatment (for which we are trying to raise money) which does the same but without the toxic chemical stew. … Please say whatever you have to say to whichever Diety/ Great Spirit/ Allah/ God/ Jehovah in whom you believe — and should Bernie be appearing somewhere GO SEE HIM…..just don’t talk about this to him. It is totally overwhelming for him and he does NOT want a lot of emotional histrionics.”

I posted this before but had to take it down because our oldest granddaughter, Stephanie, had not been told yet and we…
