Rocknuts Insider: Music fans mourn death of two stars

1) Gladys Knight & The Pips Singer, William Guest, dies. Hall of Fame inductee William Guest died on Christmas Eve of congestive heart failure. Guest’s vocals found their way onto some of rock’s most memorable songs including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye),” and “Midnight Train to Georgia.” (via Rolling Stone)

2) AC/DC dominates hard rock in 2015. Billboard just released their list of the Top 20 best-selling hard rock and metal albums of 2015. AC/DC’s ‘Rock Or Bust’ topped the list with more than 555,000 albums sold. The album debuted in December of 2014. (Blabbermouth)

3) Adele destroys sales records. Adele’s latest album ’25’ has been out just five weeks. The disc has sold 7 million copies in that time. “After becoming the first album in the SoundScan era to rack up two platinum weeks, 25 is now in even more uncharted territory with its third,” Rolling Stone reports. ‘Hello’ is one of the album’s first singles (and the only song from the album that’s streaming on Spotify):

4) Rock loses Stevie Wright. We got sad news this weekend when we learned Stevie Wright – the lead singer of Easybeats – has died (via UCR). Some of Wright’s songs have been covered by the biggest names in rock including Rod Stewart, David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen. The Easybeats’ biggest U.S. hit came in 1966 with ‘Friday on My Mind’ (below). Rocknuts’ own, Rich Karfilis, wrote up a touching tribute piece to Stevie here.

5) Is ‘Come Together’ The Beatles’ most popular song of all time? Streaming sites would say yes. Since the band finally debuted on a number of streaming sites including Spotify and Apple Music, Come Together has been the most listened to track. Rocknuts lists the other leading tracks here.
