Captain Quirk recalls: Today marks the 72nd birthday of Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts, and with Gregg Allman turning 68 on Tuesday, we’ve got to get some Allman Brothers going for Song of the Day. This song, recorded in September of 1971, was written and sung by Betts and is about his then-girlfriend and future wife Sandy “Bluesky” Wabegijig. It was also one of Duane Allman’s last performances with the band before dying in a motorcycle crash in October of 1971. It’s a gorgeous song and a display of the brilliance of Duane and the rest of the band.
