Rich Karfilis recalls: I know we just passed the anniversary of John Lennon’s murder, but i’m still getting over the 14th anniversary of George Harrison’s death. I still miss them as if they were my own brothers. With all the terrible things happening in the world these days, I got to thinking about this song. It’s funny, Lennon’s “Imagine” always gets the nod as the go-to plea for Peace, but I always thought this one makes for a better Peace song of record. I know this may sound sacrilegious, but George makes the case with more feeling and passion, and I believe it’s a better song. George typically eschews Lennon’s pie-in-the-sky dreaming for the real and the personal: “Give me hope, help me cope with this heavy load, trying to touch and reach you with heart and soul…” Amen, brother.
