This Day in Rock History: The Death of John Lennon



johnlennonToday marks the 35th anniversary of one of rock music’s saddest days as on this day in 1980, John Lennon was shot outside his apartment building in New York City by Mark David Chapman. Lennon was rushed to the hospital after the shooting, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. ET.

In the United States, the news was announced by Howard Cosell during a Monday Night Football broadcast.
