Christopher Tahy recalls: A song written by Willie Dixon and Ellas McDaniel — known as Bo Diddley — and recorded by the latter in 1956. While it has been covered quite a lot, it’s rare that you hear one that rocks as much as this one. One of the best records of 2012 is easily Ty Segall Band’s Slaughterhouse. Garage rock is an overdone genre, but the ever-prolific Ty Segall helped put a special stamp of raw, unadulterated energy on it. “Diddy Wah Diddy” has been covered by the likes of Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band, The Twilights, The Sonics, and The Astronauts, to name a few. It took Ty Segall and his band to give no fucks to reinvent this classic into a modern day classic, “DIDDY WAH DIDDY.”
