Song of the Day: George Harrison – “My Sweet Lord”

Captain Quirk recalls: Today marks the 14th anniversary of the passing of the legendary George Harrison, who died from metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in Los Angeles in 2001. When thinking of Harrison, the first song that comes to mind isn’t anything he did with the Beatles, but “My Sweet Lord,” which still stands as likely his most popular solo tune. The song went to No. 1 all over the world and was the first solo No. 1 single by a member of The Beatles. The song was famously the subject of lawsuits as it was found to be in copyright infringement of “He’s So Fine” by The Chiffons, but that doesn’t diminish the greatness of the song. It’s such a soothing, gorgeous song that is very fitting for Harrison’s legacy.
