Song of the Day: Smashing Pumpkins – “Zero”

Captain Quirk recalls: The Smashing Pumpkins’ ambitious double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness turned 20 a few days back, which got me thinking back to my time with it when it was released. I was never really a fan of the band before Mellon Collie came out, but I gave the album a try and eventually got hooked. I think it’s gained some appreciation over time as an album that is better than many originally gave it credit for, and maybe it’s as close as the 90s came to its own version of The White Album. I love the ambition of this album, and I think it still holds up well today. The song “Zero” is probably my favorite rocker from the album.

  1. This takes me back… Whenever I hear this song, I think of the Pumpkins’ appearance on the Simpsons. This was a great album.
