New David Bowie album on the way

davidbowieDavid Bowie will be releasing his 25th studio album on January 8, 2016 — the singer’s 69th birthday.

The album is called Blackstar and is Bowie’s first since 2013’s The Next Day. Bowie’s official web site confirmed the release over the weekend.

The London Times reported over the weekend that Bowie’s new album “may well be (his) odd-est work yet” and also, per NME.com, stated that the album would have seven tracks and would be 45 minutes in length. The statement on Bowie’s web site denied the accuracy of that report.

“It can now be confirmed that ‘Blackstar’ is the forthcoming single and album from David Bowie,” the statement reads. “Contrary to inaccurate reporting on the sound and content of the album, only the following can be confirmed: The single will be released on November 20th and is not part of David’s theatre piece ‘Lazarus’. The album will be released on David’s birthday, January 8th 2016.”
