This Day in Rock History: Janis Joplin dies at 27

Janis JoplinMusic lost one of its all-time great voices on this day in 1970 as Janis Joplin passed away in Hollywood at age 27.

Joplin was found dead on the floor of her hotel room. Her death was ruled to be a heroin overdose, possibly compounded by alcohol.

Janis would have been 72 years old this year. Her legacy is so big for such a short life that it’s stunning to think what she would have been able to accomplish had she stayed alive. Enjoy her at her best below:
