Song Of The Day: Ryan Adams — New York, New York (2001)

Rich Karfilis Recalls: For weeks after the horrors of 9/11, the entertainment industry sat in stunned disbelief, just like the rest of us, not knowing quite how to respond. Album releases were delayed, comedians refused to tell jokes, shows were cancelled.

But then this song arrived in November like a nice, long musical hug. Ryan Adams had written a love song for New York, before that day of course, and this song had a warm, infectious, positive energy, a great sax solo, and a chorus that said “But I still love you, New York”. It was like therapy. There was a bunch of us who listened to it a lot for a couple of months. It’s still my favorite Ryan Adams song.
