Song of the Day: Speedy Ortiz – “Raising The Skate”

Christopher Tahy Recalls: One of my favorite bands of the last four years has to be Speedy Ortiz. An homage to indie rock of the 90’s (Pavement, Archers of Loaf, Built to Spill, ect. ect.) Sadie Dupuis and her boys create angular, moody indie rock sounds with distinct personality and flair. What also really helps their sound? Well, Dupuis is a professor of poetry at UMass and was a part of a Pavement tribute band, Babement.

“Raising The Skate” off of 2015’s Foil Deer rocks and hobbles along like the bastard son of a Built to Spill or a Pavement song. Dupuis’ stretched echos bounce off the guitar lines and make this track even more irresistible. If you enjoy what you hear, do yourself a favor and check out 2013’s critical acclaimed Major Arcana — You’ll thank me later.
