Worst theme in the history of weddings? How about the 9/11 attacks?

When DEVO’s Jerry Casale got married on Friday, his cake featured the Twin Towers. Guests received Stanley knives – the same type the terrorist used to hijack airplanes used in the attack.

It “was pretty nasty,” Casale said after an uproar on the Internet. The party’s cake featured the Twin Towers with photographs of Casale and his new wife on the front.

“I apologise to anyone who offended,” Casale told Billboard, who claims that the party was a surprise to him and his wife, 26 year-old Krista Napp. He added that the criticism he has received from internet users has “ruined our wedding”. Casale said friends had questioned whether it was right to marry on the 14th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, but that he felt it was right as he and Napp “are the Twin Towers of love”. Arranged without the couple’s knowledge, Casale says that a friend arranged for the cake and other jokes at the party. “He thought it was some sort of transgressive sick humor, and the problem is, it’s not funny,” Casale said of his friend. Casale continued, saying he was “surprised at the attention” this is receiving and admitted to being upset that one of his friends has sold pictures from the wedding. “Who would have thought that somebody goes and sells shots to TMZ?” he asked.

If we needed another reason to shun Devo, Casale has given us one. Via NME.

  1. Wait, why are we shunning Devo? Aren’t they preaching the mass devolution of humankind? For all we know, the attacks on 9/11 could be the catalyst that sets into motion their exact philosophy. We all must admit that since we were scared that day and we were scooped up by the loving arms of Tom Ridge and Dick Cheney, things have been significantly dumber in this country.

Not to get political, but I think Sting sucks.
