Happy Birthday to Van Morrison

vanmorrisonHappy Birthday wishes go out to Sir George Ivan Morrison, a.k.a. Van Morrison, a.k.a. “Van the Man,” who turns 70 today.

Morrison’s legacy as a rock legend is unquestioned, as he’s a member of both the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. But at age 70 he hasn’t slowed down much as he’s had a busy 2015. Morrison, who is currently on tour, released his 35th studio album in March (Duets: Re-working the Catalogue), has a new best-of collection out today (The Essential Van Morrison), and was given a knighthood in June.

If you love rock, chances are you love at least a few songs sung by Van Morrison. There is, of course, “Brown Eyed Girl,” which, if you’ve been to college and been out partying at all while you were there, you’ve probably at one point or another engaged in a drunken sing-along of. There’s classics like “Moondance,” “And It Stoned Me,” “Bright Side of the Road,” and “Into the Mystic,” but if I had to pick a personal favorite, I’d go all the way back to Them for “Here Comes the Night.” Great stuff:
