Song of the Day: Fleetwood Mac — Oh Well Part 1 (1969)

Rich Karfilis Recalls: Ah yes, the REAL Fleetwood Mac, before those two Americans came in and ruined everything. They were a jazz/rock/blues ensemble under the leadership of the troubled but hugely talented guitarist/vocalist Peter Green, and of course including the rhythm section of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

This track is representative of the Mac’s original sound – driving, inventive blues-flavored rock. Released as a single, the coda is actually the start of Oh Well Part 2, which is a meandering, acoustic folk/jazz instrumental which was completed on the single’s flip side. Rock musicians back then believed anything was possible, musically speaking.
