Song of The Day: Crosby, Stills and Nash – Dark Star (1977)

Rich Karfilis Recalls: I always saw Steven Stills as being the Lennon to Graham Nash’s McCartney and David Crosby’s Harrison. Stills’ songwriting and vocals balanced off the inherent sweetness of the other two, and I always believed that Stills’ gritty presence almost made Neil Young’s addition to the band a little bit redundant. I also believe that Steven Stills is a better lead guitarist than Neil, and I would be prepared to make that argument anytime.

I love this track, even though it came from a generally weak album when Crosby was starting to drift into never-never land. What a fantastic vocal from Stills, what a great lyric, and I love the acoustic guitar solo too.
