Review: Say Lou Lou – Lucid Dreaming

3.5 OUT OF 5 NUTS!

sayloulou-luciddreamingWe’re about rock music here at Rocknuts, which means including Say Lou Lou’s Lucid Dreaming in our review archives is a bit of a stretch seeing as how it’s much more electro pop than rock. But, there’s certainly a place for well-crafted pop, which is what you’ll find here.

Lucid Dreaming is the debut album from Say Lou Lou, twin sister duo of Elektra Kilbey-Jansson and Miranda Kilbey-Jansson. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel but does accomplish what it sets out to do quite well, delivering an album that is start to finish filled with catchy and enjoyable pop songs, a few of which feel tailor-made for repeat plays on Top 40 radio. The singles “Everything We Touch” and “Nothing But a Heartbeat” are two such songs, and are indicative of what you’ll find here.

If this is your thing, there are several similar highlights to be found on this album. “Julian” is a good listen, as are the album’s slower tracks “Peppermint,” “Beloved,” and the ballad “Wilder Than the Wind.”

Listening to this album makes one wonder where Say Lou Lou goes from here as they’ve covered the electro pop bases pretty well, but there’s potential here. Lucid Dreaming is a better-than-average pop album that delivers many enjoyable moments and makes for a good, laid-back listen.
